Welcome to Andhra Pradesh Micro Irrigation Project

The Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) was launched on 1st July, 2015 with the objective to achieve convergence of investments in irrigation sector at filed level.

The scheme aims at providing end-to-end solutions in irrigation supply chain, viz., water resources, distribution network, farm level applications and improving water use efficiency.

PMKSY not only focuses on creating sources for assured irrigation, but also creating protective irrigation by harnessing rain water at Micro level through ‘Jal Sanchay’ and ‘Jal Sinchan’. Micro Irrigation is an integral component of PMKSY to maximize water use efficiency at field level and ensuring ‘Per Drop – More Crop’ (PMKSY – PDMC).

Andhra Pradesh Micro Irrigation Project (APMIP) is a Special purpose vehicle (SPV) set up in the State in order to streamline all the institutions responsible for Micro Irrigation scheme implementation on one platform to facilitate farmers to implement Micro Irrigation easily in the fields, which ultimately advances water use efficiency. There is an enormous opportunity to increase Micro irrigation area coverage while also increasing the GDP of the State and ensuring food security for growing population.

To overcome these major issues Government of Andhra Pradesh has created Special Purpose Vehicle in the name of Andhra Pradesh Micro Irrigation Project (APMIP) for effective execution with a dedicated team to focus and support Micro Irrigation technologies in the State for the benefit of farming community.

Potential of Micro Irrigation in the State is estimated at around 23.55 lakh Ha, while the present coverage of Micro Irrigation is 13.12 lakh ha. [This point can be strengthened by AP Irrigation Potential. Gross Irrigated Area, Net Irrigated Area].

APMIP was launched on 3rd Nov, 2003 with an objective of enhancing crop productivity by improving water use efficiency through Micro Irrigation.

APMIP is functioning is all the 13 districts independently under the chairmanship of the District Collector & is headed by the Project Director.

Though the overall potential of Micro Irrigation in Andhra Pradesh is projected to be about 23.55 lakh ha the Micro Irrigation coverage achieved by 2019 was only around 13.12 lakh ha in 16 years.

Government of Andhra Pradesh is also supporting the Government of India initiative by sufficient fund allocation without any delay ensuring timely fund disbursement from the State through CFMS portal to the dedicated cell (APMIP) for promoting at the State level.

* The scheme is operational throughout the year in the State enabling farmers to avail real benefits of Micro Irrigation technology.

* APMIP has fully automated online interactive web portal.

* Aadhar enabled bio metric registration and delivery of fund to the beneficiary.

* 37 no’s companies are empanelled for Micro Irrigation implementation. The farmers can choose any one and the company has to provide services at least 7 years after Micro Irrigation
